Editorial Services Refined

I’ve recently updated the services on offer here at Playle Editorial Services. The main difference is that there are now fewer of them. I’ve made the changes for several reasons.

As a service provider, my ultimate aim is to give you the best I can offer in terms of usefulness and value.

Now that I’ve been running my business for several years, I’m more aware of the intersection between what I can offer and what people want. For this reason, I’ve removed some of my smaller packages as it seems people are more interested in giving their all to their manuscripts (which is awesome).

Saying that, there is a service that has proved popular, and that’s the ‘Best Foot Forward‘ package. Originally, this was a line-edit of the first 100 pages of a manuscript (with an editorial report), but I’ve reduced it to 50 pages (which is still more than enough to get to grips with the writing) and included a synopsis analysis, too.

This allows me to give you the most value for money, as I’ve also reduced the price of this service. If you can’t afford a full manuscript critique or copy-edit, this really is a brilliant place to start.

Separating some services makes the most sense – and allows me to offer more detailed feedback.

Some editors provide a holistic service where they line-edit your work and provide notes on the bigger elements. Originally, I had these as separate services, but after seeing other editors combine these services and seeing a demand for this dual approach (mostly for budget reasons), I followed suit. However, I’ve now gone back to my original structure and separated copy-editing from big picture critiquing.

After some more research, I discovered my approach to critiquing was far more in-depth than what is offered by other editorial services – there’s a sample critique on the manuscript critique page if you’re interested. My MA in Creative Writing and experience as a writer means I can provide a more in-depth analysis using my knowledge in the specialist field of fiction writing – something that stands me apart from many other editors.

Introducing add-ons so you can more easily get the package you want.

Lastly, I have included synopsis editing and critiquing, query letter editing and critiquing, and blurb editing and critiquing (for self-publishers) as add-ons to my copy-editing service.

Lots of my copy-editing clients ask for these extras. Previously, I had them packaged with a Submissions Package Edit, which wasn’t proving to be popular. By providing these smaller projects as add-ons, it’s easier for people to chose exactly what they want.

If you’re a current client with a project booked in, don’t worry – our service agreements stand. My previous services are still high quality and offer great value. I’ve simply now refined them to make future projects more straightforward and as useful and good-value as I can make them.

Talking of value …

I’ve got a little gift for you.

Most editors (myself included) charge for editorial services based on two things: the length of your manuscript, and how much work it needs. With that in mind, it makes sense that when you submit your manuscript to an editor, it’s in the best shape you can possibly make it.

Why? Because you’ll get the most value from your editor. You’ll save money and get the most useful feedback.

To help, I’ve written a free guide: ‘15 Steps to Get Your Manuscript in Shape Before Hiring an Editor’. Click the title to find out more. I hope you find it useful!
